We know you're excited.  We're excited too and we're counting down the days, minutes and seconds until Christmas 2009!  Check back often.  Christmas will be here before you know it!
A Christmas countdown lets you know how many days there are until Christmas.  This can be very helpful when preparing for the Christmas season.  For those who get excited about Christmas but wait to the last minute to prepare, a Christmas countdown can still be fun.

Preparing for Christmas is a lot of work, but if you begin preparing early you can save yourself a lot of headaches.  It is good to map out ahead of time all of the things you’ll have to do for Christmas, including Christmas shopping and sending Christmas cards, so that you don’t have a lot of work to do and no time to do it.

When the Christmas countdown says that there are about 55 days until Christmas (early November), you should start thinking about Christmas shopping.  Why start that early?  Well, there are a number of reasons: (1) You can buy leftover Halloween candy at extremely reduced prices to use as stocking stuffers.  (2) You can participate in Black Friday sales (Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States).  (3) You can set “wish list prices” on a number of online stores in order to get an email when the price of a Christmas gift you want drops below a certain price.  (4) You can purchase gifts on layaway, so you can pay in installments overtime.  (5) You can avoid the Christmas shopping rush and get the gifts you want before stores run out of them.  (6) You can go comparison shopping to make sure you’re getting the best prices on Christmas gifts available.

When the Christmas countdown says that that are about 40 days until Christmas (about mid-November), you should begin thinking about sending Christmas cards.  You’ll want to get your Christmas cards out early because they inevitably take more work to prepare and send than you think.  It takes time to collect the addresses, write the cards, address and stamp the envelopes and put them in the mail.  Remember, always take advantage of bulk Christmas card deals, as you can save the extras for the following year (another option is to buy Christmas cards the week after Christmas when they are extraordinarily inexpensive).

Finally, when the Christmas countdown says that there is only a week until Christmas, you should select the recipes for Christmas dinner and pick up the supplies you’ll need.  Lay everything out so you can be sure that you have every last ingredient.  If you have to go to the supermarket on Christmas day for a single ingredient, that trip will take you forever.  Also, always buy a little more Christmas food than you think you’ll need because inevitably someone will bring a guest you didn’t expect.

Also, don’t forget to buy your Christmas ornaments early.  You can view our festive collection of Christmas ornaments and buy your Christmas ornaments early right on this site.
